We know fruit and vegetables are good for our health because they are packed with vitamins and minerals, but they are also great for our skin….
Apples can help protect your skin from UV rays, and because they contain procyanidin B-2 they are known to help with hair growth.
Avocados are anti inflammatory, they have properties to look after your eye health and they moisturise your skin.
Bananas contain natural oils which are great for your skin and your hair. The skin can be rubbed on insect bites and acne too.
Carrots help with premature ageing, they can prevent dry skin and they are wonderful for your eyesight.
Cranberries are great for your urinary tract health.
Cherries help to reduce inflammation in the body and they contain natural melatonin which is vital for sleep.
Ginger ( I use the fresh root ) is known as an appetite suppressant, it can aid digestion and improve your circulation. It can also rev up your metabolism.
Kale is great for urinary health. This vegetable helps fight UTI’s (urinary tract infections). it can also prevent loss of skin elasticity.
Onions contain a natural source of quercetin which is great for youthful skin.
Pears can help with cellulite as the iodine in them helps drain out toxins.
Sweet Potatoes can help prevent the start of wrinkles due to their ability to promote the synthesis of hyaluronic acid (HA) . This protein helps keep our skin smooth and supple, but before you eat them by the bucket load be aware that this substance does deteriorate in the body as we age.
Tomatoes contain lycopene which neutralises the harmful effects of UV light. They are also a great food to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
this made me feel more mindful, the food as medicine thing, very interesting. Now before I put something in my mouth I ask it “what can you do for me”?
and I feel better knowing its giving me nutrients that work for my benefit. Sadly I still fight with that chocolate that insists it has goodness too! lol
